Job Description

About the Role:

We are looking for a senior Software Test Engineer acting as a full-time subcontractor/freelancer to provide testing services in close collaboration with our internal team. Our product is a cybersecurity SaaS platform that helps manufacturers and security teams certify IoT and connected devices against international regulatory standards. It is built around three components: a React/TypeScript frontend, a TypeScript client library, and a Node.js/PostgreSQL backend, with AI-assisted features that guide users through compliance workflows.

In this role, you will own the testing strategy across all three platform components. Correctness and reliability are especially critical in a compliance and security context — our users depend on the platform to make certification decisions. You will work closely with the Full Stack Engineer to maintain test coverage, with the Cybersecurity Standards Engineer to validate compliance rule sets, and with the UI/UX Designer to ensure that user-facing workflows behave as designed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test suites across the frontend (React, Vite), client library (TypeScript), and backend (Node.js, PostgreSQL).

  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests using Vitest and related tooling (Playwright, Cypress, or similar).

  • Define and enforce testing standards, coverage thresholds, and quality gates within CI/CD pipelines.

  • Collaborate with the Cybersecurity Standards Engineer to define test cases that validate the correctness and completeness of compliance rule implementations.

  • Test and validate AI-assisted features for consistency, correctness, and graceful failure handling.

  • Perform exploratory and security-oriented testing appropriate to a cybersecurity product context.

  • Triage, reproduce, and document bugs with clear reproduction steps and impact assessments.

  • Participate in code reviews with a quality-focused perspective.

  • Continuously improve test infrastructure, tooling, and the overall developer experience around testing.

Preferred Experience

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional software testing experience with a strong focus on test automation; 10+ years is strongly preferred.

  • Solid experience writing automated tests in TypeScript across unit, integration, and E2E layers.

  • Hands-on experience with testing frameworks such as Vitest, Jest, Playwright, or Cypress; experience with React Testing Library or similar component testing tools is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of full-stack web application architecture: React frontends, REST APIs, and relational databases (PostgreSQL)

  • Experience integrating and managing test pipelines in CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)

  • Ability to read and reason about application code to design meaningful, non-trivial test cases.

  • Exposure to performance or load testing tools is a plus, especially for SaaS platforms or API-heavy products.

  • Experience testing AI or LLM-powered features, including prompt validation, output consistency, edge cases, and failure modes, is highly valued.

Soft skills:

  • Pragmatic and results-oriented, with the ability to balance quality, test coverage, and delivery timelines in a fast-moving environment.

  • Proactive and solution-oriented, able to identify quality risks early and raise them constructively.

  • Autonomous and hands-on, comfortable building and improving testing processes, tools, and practices from the ground up.

  • Continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to iterate, refine, and scale quality practices as the product evolves.

  • Strong sense of ownership, with genuine care for product reliability, user trust, and the impact of quality issues in a compliance-focused environment.

  • Collaborative and communicative, able to work effectively with engineers, product stakeholders, and domain experts.

  • English is a must; French or German is a plus.
